Reserves suffer unfortunate defeat at the Alex!

Tuesday 31st March 2009 Result Mold Alex 5 V 3 Reserves

The reserves ventured to the Alex on Tuesday night, really hoping to do the double over them in the league following a 2 v 1 home win earlier in the season, however it was not to be as Mold again beat us at their manor as they had done so in the League Cup!

We started off very brightly and should have been at least a couple of goals up in the first 15 minutes! Alex scored scored mid way through the first half when their striker went through on goal and beat Rob Wills who initially stopped as he thought the opposing player was offside! The goal stood though and Mold went 1 v 0 up.

To be fair, we didn’t really threaten again as the half time whistle beckoned against a spirited Mold outfit.

Half time: Mold 1 v 0 Reserves

That well known management duo of `Rodge and the Tash` made a change at half time with Woodsy coming on for the second half.

Woodsy with an electrifying run scored within 5 minutes of the restart to level the score! This gave us more confidence and shortly after, Mattie Wilcox scored a blinder from a free kick just outside the box!

The score then became 3 v 1 when Woodsy went on a run and squared it across the goal for Trowy to beat the advancing keeper! At this stage in the match we looked as if we might then push on and score a bagful!

The game then changed again when Del our left back unfortunately gave away a penalty which Mold converted.

We then committed suicide and gifted Mold a further two gilt edged chances which they converted to sneak in front!

The game then culminated in Mold scoring a fifth due to another defensive clanger and towards the end of the game, Mold’s centre forward was sent off for foul and abusive language, but by then the game was lost!

This was always going to be a tough season for us including games against some League of Wales and Cymru Alliance reserve teams, but we must tighten up as a unit for our next fixture at Penycae, as we will always score goals against most of the opposition in this league. Let’s keep positive though as we have had some great performances this season!

Rodge and the Pie will be in charge at Penycae as the Tash will be in Plettenberg!

Borras park Albion Reserves 2 Airbus UK Reserves 2

Honours even in thrilling encounter!!

Considering the rainfall, the Dean Road pitch was almost near perfect as we welcomed Airbus UK Reserves to Rhosnesni for this league fixture.

The game kicked off and was very soon developing into an end to end game as both teams played attacking football. With a swirling wind it was Borras who opened the scoring following a neat move, when Gareth (Bagpuss) Williams crossed from the left and in stole Gazzy Rogers (Assistant Player Manager), with a lovely header which beat the outstretched hands of the visiting keeper!

In the second half, the game continued its pattern of it being attack and counter attack. The game then swung towards Airbus when Lee Davies Borras full back and Captain, was harshly penalised for hand ball in the penalty area which Airbus converted from the spot, which made the scores level.

Borras then went ahead when Arty Ruminiski, recent signing from Poland hooked the ball towards the penalty area and up popped Mattie Woods who had recently come on the field as substitute, who looped the ball over the advancing Airbus keeper!

From the restart, Airbus then were awarded a corner which came in from the right and the ball went straight into the net via a melee of players and the honours were even again!

With both teams pressing for a winner in the last 20 minutes of the game, Borras had two or three good chances to score again when Adam Roberts Borras mid-fielder twice put Mattie Woods through but the visiting keeper saved very well on both occasions and believe it or not Airbus were awarded a further two penalties for handball and a trip respectively and unfortunately for them they put both of them wide of the post!

Borras MOM: Mike Gilpin - well done Gilly!

A thoroughly entertaining game finished all square, and this match was a credit to both teams and a great advert for the Reserves League which is proving to be extremely competitive.

After the game both teams ventured back to the Cunliffe Arms for some `liquid` sorry light, refreshments!

It must be noted that for the reserves last match, the Rodge supplied not water but lucosade sport drinks as the half time refreshment!

Grateful thanks from all concerned (especially the Tash who needs the energy at the moment!)
